Did you notice when you woke up the sun was a little bit brighter this morning? Your cereal taste just a little bit better? An extra spring in your step? That's all due to Bruce Lewis, a guest we at Ohayocon are doing cartwheels over. And trust us, we haven't done a cartwheel since like, fourth grade.

So now you're wondering what's so great about Bruce? Well, humor us while we get out of traction (those cartwheels hurt.)

Bruce Lewis is an American cartoonist, artist, and author. Among the first comics artists to bring manga influences to American comics, Lewis wrote and drew the Robotech: Invid War Aftermath (1993-1994) series for Marvel's Malibu/Eternity Comics line. Later, Lewis created the Robotech: Hohsq's Story (1995), and Robotech Aftermath: Megaroad (1996) series for Academy Comics; he also wrote and illustrated the four-issue Gall Force: Eternal Story (1994-1995) miniseries for CPM Manga, and colored, lettered, and produced many more CPM comics titles. From 1995 to 1997 Lewis wrote, drew, and edited Star Blazers: The Magazine of Space Battleship Yamato for Voyager Entertainment, Inc.'s Argo Press imprint and edited the Star Blazers Perfect Album sourcebook, also published by Argo Press. His most recent pure comics work was the comics novella "Dairooster 5!" and the short story manga "It Happened in the 7th Grade", both featured in 2002's Juku: A Comics Album. An advertising artist and art director for some fifteen years, Bruce Lewis specializes in strongly iconic and stylized images in his design approach, a specialty inspired by his lifelong love for poster art. He currently woks for a major newspaper publisher in Dallas, and is currently a partner in the media firm Cheap Disposable Entertainment, Inc. His latest book, Draw Manga: How To Draw Manga In Your Own Unique Style was released in 2005 by Chrysalis/Collins & Brown/Barnes & Noble Publishing.

Early this morning, the Texas home of award-winning writer/artist Lea Hernandez, my friend and co-creator of the graphic novel Killer Princesses, caught fire and burned. Half her house is now gone, and the rest is smoke-damaged. In addition, she lost at least six of her family's beloved pets, two dogs and four cats. If you knew Lea, you'd know how devastating that is.

She's lost a great deal of her family's possessions, including irreplaceable art. She doesn't yet know the full accounting of what's been lost at this time.

Most know Lea as the brilliant creator of such works as Rumble Girls and Cathedral Child. She drew the Marvel Mangaverse Punisher book, and has drawn for Transmetropolitan, among many other accomplishments. She is also the co-founder and original editor for Girl-a-Matic, one of the most important venues for female-friendly comics created to date.

She's also my friend, and it's entirely possible I wouldn't have a career in comics if she hadn't asked me to write Killer Princesses for her to draw.

And finally, Lea is one of the last great firebrand hellraisers in comics.

Lea has two (wonderful, amazing) special needs children and right now they need a place to stay and some clothes to wear. More than that, they need some help, and fast, in the form of donations to her PayPal account. Lea's a proud person so I'm going to ask for her. This is important, and a great chance to do a wonderful thing for a creator who has consistently enriched this industry we all love so much. Please, take a moment and send whatever you can to Lea's PayPal account and help make this time a little bit less painful for someone who would do the same for you if the positions were reversed.

If you're a retailer, I ask that you set up a donations jar. If you're a creator, I ask you to think of how devastating this would be to your career and donate what you can. If you're a reader, I'm asking you to take a moment and hit the PayPal link. You'll be doing something heroic and you'll feel great about it, I promise.

"Scholars disagree on how many years the Karaoke has been taking place. Even the guy who founded it isn't exactly sure. However, he does recall that it was started while the Kon was still at in Addison, so it has been quite a while indeed! Come celebrate what has to be at least 7 or 8 years of organized braying to the tunes!

A few simple rules apply, though:
1)Don't touch the machine! it is rather expensive and Karaoke Minion is there for that - besides, it's a rental & we don't want to have to explain that blown speaker
2)Bring your own CD- sorry, kidz; we don't really have a music library
3)Please don't crowd the front performance space or the aisle if you aren't singing
4)Japanese only! If you can sing it at a sports bar anywhere in this great land of ours, then we don't wanna hear it! (exception can be made for US versions of anime themes. Other exceptions made only at the whim and caprice of the host)
5) DON'T TOUCH THE MACHINE!
