I got picked in the third batch. Which was a relief. It was standing room only at the jury pool and I was leaning up against a wall for about an hour when they called my name. In the end we were all dismissed. I got a check for $6 and got on a bus in the middle of a protest and went home. But at least now I won't be called again for 2 years. That's what they told me...

IBNLive : 'Death calls' rumour sweeps Orissa: "New Delhi: About two years back, the state of Uttar Pradesh was abuzz with a new urban legend - muhnochwa, a face-scratching creature.

Scores of people in the state reported being attacked by a strange and brightly-lit flying object that apparently left scratch marks on their faces.

A few months after it began, the muhnochwa seemed to disappear as mysteriously as it had appeared.

Now, there is a new scare in India - calls from mobile phones that kill or make people sick.

People in the eastern state of Orissa are switching off their phones after rumours of the 'devil calls' swept the state on Sunday.

The rumour in the state is that the receiver of an SMS or a phone call from an 11- to 14-digit numbers, instead of the regular 10, will fall sick or even die.

Though phone companies have said the rumour was baseless and looked more like a prank, people in Orissa have been calling up their relatives and friends in other states to warn them.

A state government spokesman has also dismissed the story as rubbish. 'We investigated and found out that no one was dead nor anybody taken ill. It was all rubbish,' the spokesman said.

Un-named flash comment video thing project

It occurred to me that I could have an audio version of this. Have it so that you could record an audio track through the microphone on your computer as you watch the clip. This would take more bandwidth and drive space, but it'd be simpler. Just a simple push button record. Audio comment tracks would be kept separate from the audio of the video clips but selectable for playback. A true commentary track.

If only I knew enough about flash to actually program this.

It turns out I should've recorded THE IPCRESS FILE when I had the chance. The DVD is out of print and used DVDs are going for $100 on Amazon. Can't even rent it on Netflix. So I'll have to wait for it to play on TCM again.

Luckily I recorded THE 7 PERCENT SOLUTION when it played on TCM.

All the time spent looking and converting the clips on mypodcasts will be for moot. I just got an e-mail informing me that I've used up 87% of my bandwidth and once it reaches 100% the account will be suspended. Wonderful. If only I could get the Loudblog software to work on PowWeb I could just run the whole damn thing from animehell.org but no luck.

It seems to me that I'm wasting way too much time and effort on things that aren't working out lately...

Trying to find all the pre-revved clips and convert them to Quicktime and replace them in the Mypodcasts Loudblog. Time consuming work. And I've never organized them into any folder or computer, so I can't find all of 'em.

Fun. Lots of fun...

I was thinking about a way to make pop up comments on video. Like something I could put on the AnimeHELL site that would let people watch a HELLclip and add their own comments and stingers to the clip. little pop up balloons with or without arrows or tails that could be pointed to subjects on screen. Balloons could be placed anywhere and have a default existence time that could be increased or reduced. Maybe even add a goofy sound effects at any point(s) in the timeline. Maybe this could be done in a flash interface. When you are done you could save the annotated clip and it would be shared with everybody. Then you could have another user watch the annotated clip or add to the clip. Every time a clip is annotated it would be considered a new clip. This would allow many people to contribute to a clip. Clips would be grouped so you could watch unannotated versions or a subgroups of annotated clips. Annotated clips would be also listed as new collabrations. Set the whole thing up as a creative commons deal and give away collections of annotated clips on video disk. Yes, it wouldn't quite be like being at a show and heckling the screen with the crowd. But there is the idea of community by sharing and re-sharing the annotations with a group online. Different, but interesting. And involving. More thoughts later...

I've given up on getting an Xbox. I don't want one any more. No, now I'd like to get a PSP. And so I've set up an Amazon Honor Box to take donations.

And I don't feel guilty at all.

In fact I may push it at OtakuHELL. Sort of a warped telethon for a cause. That cause being a PSP for me.

Watched THE IPCRESS FILE on TCM last night. A brilliant movie, reminded me of REQUIEM FOR A SECRET AGENT in a lot of ways. I really want to track that movie down again.

The score for THE IPCRESS FILE was great, I'd also like to track down a copy of that.

Set up the Liteon DVD Recorder and found to my surprise that it played MP4 AVIs. More testing to come...

Came home to see an squad of city workers with branch cutting poles swarming around the Edstead. The city is sending these guys to cut back the shrubbery from the landlines and powerlines. In fact, something had cut the power because the leechbox had been reset. I had to go back and restart everything, which was a trick because I didn't remember what had been leeching.

Ed hired a maid service and they came and scrubbed the place down. Poor Nub was scared out of his little skin by the cleaning crew and their lemon smelling solutions. He climbed into the catnest and burrowed under the covers. Then stuck his nose out at the edge of the loft and bleated a sad sad cry.

But now the house looks and smells cleaner then it ever has. And Ed seems to like the idea of a maid service, so may be it'll be clean for the forseeable future.

Now if we could only find some way to fix those floors. Cheaply.

Couldn't find FLIT last night, but I found alot of great clips that I need to show at HELL. I didn't get much done, but I digitized SABRE RIDER and ROCK 'N' WRESTLING for more of that good old 80s cartoon badness. Fun stuff!

And my pride has taken a beating lately. And I'm tired of it.

Maybe it's time to just turn it off and step away for awhile. I'm too damn tired to deal with this kind of crap. And I've got better things to do with what time I have...

I ended up reformating the 128 compact flash card that the Veo ate. No chance of recovering any of the AWA photos. Tried one last time to get the Veo working, but it gave up the ghost. Useless now. Still, I'll be able to use the flash card in the card player at HELL.

Tested the digital card player and found out it only plays Mpegs. No avi or asf or wmvs. Which is cool with me. I can convert whatever I need to play...

Did some cleaning, didn't find the lapel mics. Gotta keep looking.

I keep bringing up the idea of portability and wearables because I'm thinking about mounting the security cam to a hat or a place of a headlamp of some sort and doing the whole spycam set up out in the open for OtakuHELL.

Or maybe just mounting it to a two by four and running through the crowd with it...

The sec/cam works on 12vdc, which is easy doable. A powerall would work perfectly for a wearable. But I think for OtakuHELLcasting I'll stick to a powersquid. I'm thinking I need to get a tripod for it, for use at the shows. Maybe I can use Ed's. He's probably forgot all about it. I haven't seen it since the move.

And speaking of such. I need to get to digging through the bins for those lapel mics. I need to get to test them out and get some battery's too. Yeah, gotta get everything out of the mothballs...

Looking at the cam I got from Ed for my birthday It looks like I could run it from a battery. And record to the Audiovox mini recorder. Making it completely portable or wearable. If I wanted to.

Of course the idea I had with the Cam was to record the audience and Bruce and Michael doing their bit. A simple way to get some coverage and content. I guess I need to test out the configuration and see if it'll work. I don't know if the asf files will work with the card media player, gotta test that out. I need to keep an eye out for data card sales, too. And of course I need to rig up the DVD recorder and see if it'll work.

Just last night I finally got the TV Out to work on the tablet. Turns out It wasn't turned on. Now if I can only get it to fit on the tv screen. Yeah. You only see part of the screen on the TV Out. There is a setting to make it squash/stretch to fit, but it's unselectible. Stupid video drivers. In the end I may just have to get a PCMCIA video card and leave it at that. So much for using the tablet as a video board. Still, it's worked pretty well for other things...
